Dubrovnik, located in the out most South of Croatia, is called "the Pearl of the Adriatic" - and if you consider how many wonderful places there on either side of that sea (which roughly includes one half of the Italian coastline), you will be aware of the significance of Dubrovnik. This ancient city is one of the finest sights this planet has to offer. Imagine the old town, surrounded by monumental walls and located on a peninsula with a natural harbour next to it. Behind the peninsula there is the modern - or at least the less ancient - part of the city. And then there are mountains. No wonder Dubrovnik was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List as early as 1979. This wonderful old city indeed needs to saved for future generations.
Dubrovnik has its own airport, and soon the A1 highway is expected to go all the way from Zagreb to Dubrovnik. This fact reflects the importance Dubrovnik has, for international and Croatian visitors alike. There is so much they can do when they come to the city.
Dubrovnik is a place of culture. Its annual Dubrovnik Summer Festival is famous for its originality: Artists receive the city keys, and it is their task to entertain the population with plays, concerts, and other cultural happenings - for one whole month!
