Then there is a castle built by the European crusaders, who also ruled Byblos for a period of time. From the Middle Ages also stems Byblos's city wall, which, all parts added up, is almost 500 meters long - and, like the castle, it still is in surprisingly good shape.

Byblos is directly by the sea - and it has a small natural port, mostly used for yachts. The shining blue Mediterranean Sea, the idyllic palm trees, and the fascinating historic monuments that in great numbers are spread all over town, but especially to be found in the center, make for an unforgettable atmosphere. It is fortunate that Byblos has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site - so it will be ensured that future generations too will be able to see this truly historic place!

Byblos is also a modern town of moderate proportions - the population is just above 44 thousand. Nevertheless, the city is of economic importance, not only because of tourism. Lately, the number of modern-style office buildings has been growing rapidly. Most of the people in Byblos are followers of Maronite Catholicism. The cultural and economic ties to Europe are strong - and lately, through business, they have been becoming even deeper.
