Although Valletta is one of Europe's smallest capital cities, it is certainly one of its most beautiful ones. Yes, the Maltese capital has a population of only 6300 people, but that does not keep it from looking spectacular. Most of its buildings are Baroque, which reflects how important Malta was in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the 19th century Benjamin Disraeli visited Valletta, which led him to write that "Valletta equals in its noble architecture, if it does not excel, any capital in Europe". Not bad for such a small town!

St. John's Co-Cathedral is one of the city's most wonderful monuments. This Baroque church was completed in 1572.
