Bar is a coastal town in South-Eastern Montenegro with a population of just 13 thousand, though the municipality of the same name really has 40 thousand inhabitants.
Bar is, amongst others, especially important for two reasons: It is the country's largest sea port - and a major tourist attraction. So it can be said that it is one of those places that combine business and pleasure - for not few people this is a wonderful mix. Import and export are indeed one of Bar's most important economic legs - however, the port currently operates below its capacity. That's so because it was constructed for the large country of Yugoslavia, and now, it finds itself within the rather small nation of Montenegro.
For tourists, Bar is almost perfect. The Adriatic Sea is beautiful, that is a given, but what Bar has to contribute to this are stunningly picturesque rocky mountains under the Mediterranean sun.
Sutomore with its long sandy beaches is a part of the Bar municipality. That's where the majority of the tourists go. Anyway, there is so much they can do in and around Bar. Its nature is almost entirely untouched, rich in vegetation, and of striking, wild beauty. The municipality touches on Lake Scutari, which due to its bird fauna is very important for zoological studies. This amazing lake by the way marks the border to the country of Albania.
