The perfect grammatical tense for this article would really be the future - for in this little Montenegrin town (population: around ten thousand) everything indeed is about the future. Mind you, this is not to suggest that this a place without a past, no, far from it!
In fact, this is a very ancient town - going back to the third century BC. In the 14th and 15th centuries, it was a major religious site - the beautiful Orthodox Monastery of St. Michael testifies of this fact impressively until this very day, and so does the gorgeous Renaissance Summer House Buca. Much later, Tivat became a naval base for the Yugoslav army. Well, those times fortunately are over.
The base has a new owner: The Hungarian-born, now Canadian billionaire Peter Munk has purchased it, and he is currently working on its transformation into the international marina for super-luxurious mega-yachts, called "Porto Montenegro" - which is said to be on its way to becoming Montenegro's answer to the city state of Monaco. And so much more is planned: For example a golf course and many more first-class resort hotels, like the "Four Seasons". Tivat's transport situation is already favourable: The Adriatic Highway connects it with the rest of the country and with Croatia, and the town has its own airport as well.
And this may well sound to obvious to even mention it, but now is the time to invest in Tivat. The train toward its becoming a major European upscale touristic hot stop is clearly unstoppable - but, surprisingly, real estate is still relatively price-attractive in the town and, especially, the surrounding countryside. Of course, beautiful the place already is: Imagine what the typical Mediterranean coast looks like, hills in front of the blue sea, and in between a picturesque village full of palm trees. Well, this image exactly describes Tivat's appearance. It is so truly blessed by nature, with its many inlets where the sea goes deep into the land.
